# Intro

In this guide we attempt to make you a bit less miserable on Ship Graveyard Cave. Sadly, one of the layouts in this area is so incredibly RNG that no matter the dozens of hours of time and hundreds of screenshots taken of this area one of them remains a mystery.

However, we are able to help you out a lot on how to recognize the layout you are in and where the exit is, so at least you know where you are supposed to go and minimize deadends you will encounter.

# Layouts

The area is always like a diamond, much like The Flooded Depths or The Upper Prison, and the exit in Ship Graveyard Cave is always across to the other corner of the diamond. And as such, it has 4 layouts starting in each corner of the diamond:

  • Top
  • Bottom
  • Left
  • Right

# Top

In the Top layout we start at the Top or Northern corner of the diamond, and exit is to the South. SGYCave

  • You recognize the layout is Top very quickly because the only direction you can go is North.
  • You generally want to go a tiny bit to the South-East before turning towards South-West. If you immediately after turning hit a deadend, scout if there is area generated to the West of the room you are in.
    • If yes, go back to to through the first room to the West and turn towards South and later South-West and once hitting the South-Western wall of the diamond, turn South-East.
    • If no, keep going towards South-East and turn on the next opening and keep heading towards South-West until you hit the wall at the end, then turn South-East

# Bottom

In the Bottom layout we start at the Bottom or Souther corner of the diamond, and exit is to the North. SGYCave

  • One of the actually easy to navigate layouts, in the Bottom we very quickly notice we cannot continue going towards South from the start and are forced to turn towards North instead.
  • The first chance we can, we turn towards North-West and go until we can't, and if we are allowed to keep going that direction for longer than 2 "rooms", we start turning towards North.
    • If instead we are greeted by a deadend quite fast, check if you can go North and immediately North-West. If not, just loop around from the Souther side and head towards North.

# Left

In Left layout the start is at the Western corner, and the exit is to the East. SGYCave

  • In Left layouts we quickly notice the general direction is towards East, so we start heading that way.
  • Usually the path to the end of the area is done with a bit of zigzagging, but every now and then you have to actually go all the way to North-East side of the diamond and then turn towards South to get there.

In Right layout the start is in the Eastern corner, and the exit to the west. This is the layout that makes one hate themselves quite a bit in an attempt to solve how to navigate there without hitting any deadends. SGYCave

  • Oh boy, the Right layout.
  • All I can really tell you about this layout is that you will quickly notice that the general direction is towards to the West, and that you will run to a lot of deadends.
  • My way of clearing this area is:
  • After you've entered the room below the start, turn to the North-West room and go that way until you enter the second room in that direction. If by then you weren't allowed to turn towards South-West, you have to backtrack all the way back and then head towards South-West again, immediately taking another turn to the North-West once you can and repeating what you did earlier.
    • The difference between the first South-West turn and the rest are that now instead of going that direction further, you want to turn immediately to South-West and try to zigzag your way to the exit.
  • Also note that the diamond is always the same size, so eventually you want to turn North-West and keep going that way even when you could turn South-West on immediately after.
  • So yeah, have fun.
